Meet Slurpy, our beloved Longhorn steer and one of our proudest accomplishments. Slurpy became a bottle baby after his mother developed milk toxicity, and for several weeks his survival was uncertain. During that time, he became part of the family—living in our kitchen and riding in the backseat of Sharold’s truck to shows and photography shoots from Illinois to South Dakota as we did everything possible to keep him alive. True to his name, Slurpy refused a bottle at first and instead slurped his milk from a cake pan until he was at least two months old, doing everything his own way. Keeping Slurpy alive became one of our greatest accomplishments of 2024, even as veterinarians and veteran breeders questioned our sanity. In the end, stubbornness, faith, and a lot of love won. Today, Slurpy spends his time with our yearling heifers and freshly weaned calves, helping calm the babies and teaching them to eat out of your hand and trust people. He's been known to roam the yard with the dogs, has never met a stranger, and makes us smile every day. Slurpy is more than a pet—he’s proof that sometimes the best decisions are the ones that don’t make sense to anyone else.
